University of Calgary – Capstone Project on Bridge Design

As an industry advisor, CSZ is currently supporting a group of students at the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary with their final thesis. In the so-called ‘Capstone Project,’ the students are developing alternative designs for a pedestrian and cycle bridge currently being designed by CSZ in Bad Vilbel, Germany. This project was initiated upon request from Prof. Mamdouh El-Badry, who academically supervises the students on-site.

While the actual communication between Canada and Germany naturally takes place online, we now met for the first time in person at the university. The highly motivated ‘Canadian Brückenmeisters’ as the group calls itself, took the opportunity to present their interim results and receive further suggestions. And it looks promising! Based on thoughtful and fact-based decision-making, two alternative variants of a 24 m spanning wooden bridge are now being pursued.

We wish the ‘Canadian Brückenmeisters’ continued fun and success in their work!
