CSZ Structural Design and Building Physics: Groundbreaking ceremony for the extension of the Kohlheck School
The symbolic groundbreaking ceremony marks the start of a project that will strengthen education, community, and sustainability in Wiesbaden. Together with representatives of the city and planning partners, the construction of the Kohlheck School extension was officially launched.
Highlights of the project:
✅ The primary school, which currently has three classes per grade, will be expanded to four classes per grade. Modern teaching areas, a cafeteria for around 400 children, spacious all-day rooms, and a double sports hall will be built on an area of around 3,961 m². An additional playground will extend the school grounds to the east and south, creating new areas for recreation and exercise.
✅ There is a special focus on sustainability: photovoltaic systems, rainwater harvesting, and an air-to-water heat pump ensure energy-efficient operation and a high level of user comfort.
✅ The extension will be constructed using solid construction methods and the sports hall will be constructed using timber. The planned rear-ventilated wooden slatted facade will create a visual unity. The entire roof of the extension will be greened. The result is a school building that demonstrates that educational spaces can be sustainable, functional, and sophisticated in design.
Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende sums up the significance: “Every investment in our schools is an investment in the future of our city.” The extension of the Kohlheck School sends a clear signal for local, climate-friendly, and future-oriented learning conditions.
CSZ is responsible for structural design and building physics and is delighted to be helping to shape modern and sustainable learning spaces in Wiesbaden with this pioneering project.
