CSZ: Refurbishment of the ZEKIWA baby carriage factory in Zeitz in line with heritage requirements
The former ZEKIWA factory building in Zeitz, an important testimony to industrial history and architecture, is being given a renaissance with a complete refurbishment in keeping with its listed status. After years of vacancy and damage caused by the 2013 flood, the building was not only modernized in terms of energy efficiency and accessibility, but the historical substance was also carefully harmonized with modern standards.
The energy-efficient refurbishment was planned by CSZ in close collaboration with Thoma Architekten from Zeulenroda. Particular attention was paid to the thermal measures on the building envelope. Capillary-active internal insulation was planned and implemented to meet the minimum thermal insulation requirements due to the listed façade made of hollow chamber clinker brick with plaster and terrazzo decorative elements. These measures not only ensure that the external appearance is preserved, but also that the building’s energy efficiency is improved.
In April 2024, the refurbished building was successfully handed over to the contractor, marking the beginning of the city archive’s move to its new premises. The revitalization of the ZEKIWA factory building is more than just a restoration: it preserves the cultural heritage and meets modern requirements at the same time.
