The recreation centre was built in the 1970s as a swimming and adventure spa. The wide-spanned roof construction was realised as a normally ventilated roof and timber truss system. In 2003, the reconstruction of the roof became necessary. In the course of this reconstruction the original roof, which had shown disadvantages in terms of building physics, was reconstructed and insulated. After completion, moisture and icing was detached on the façade and the roof at times of extreme low temperatures.
The thermal shell of the vertical surfaces with south-east up to north-west orientation consists of glass, all other surfaces are solid walls with thermal insulation ventilated. The roof construction consists of an insulated roof with polymer sheeting.
The bottom roof surfaces are as well of covered polymer sheeting. In a first step to examine the cause of the moisture and icing thermograms of the façade were made. After having analysed the thermograms selected structural parts were opened and scrutinised as a basis for remediation.
