Building project

In the process of reorganisation, the company Karl Mayer plans to build a new R & D-Center. This center shall be accommodated in the existing halls 22 and 23, which will be completely remodelled and extended. In future, all R & D works will be performed centrally in this building. All departments involved in the R & D process will be enabled to co-ordinate their work in the close vicinity to the testing of the machines, to co-operate with the testing department and to monitor the testing results as a basis for further development. Particular emphasis has been placed on the stimulation of an interdepartmental communication between the involved persons in the floor layout.

The base area of the existing structure of the halls 22 and 23 has the dimensions of 49.0 x 77.0 m with a height of approx. 11.5 m at the drip and 14.5 m at the ridge. The bearing components are steel columns, beams and a truss supporting the roof covered with trapezoidal sheeting. The floor of an interim level at 6.8 m consists partly of prefabricated reinforced p-concrete plates, partly of pre-stressed concrete plates supported by steel beams. Horizontal loads are resisted by frame-action and braces in the plane of the exterior walls. The exterior walls exist of AAC-panels. On the eastern side, the existing halls are expanded by an threestory annex with reinforced concrete plates and columns. The facade of the extension is fully glazed.
