CSZ was given the interesting and challenging task of building services design and supervision, including ventilation, refrigeration, plumbing, extinguishing systems, heating and elevators.
Special attention is to be given to passive house ventilation. In this case a supply and exhaust system with high heat recovery for the classrooms was realized allowing for 600 m³/h air change per class room, activated by motion detectors.
Part of the supply air flows via the corridors to the restrooms where it is used as exhaust air. Active cooling is only foreseen for the computer labs, while classrooms are equipped with a passive night-time cooling. In the area of auditorium, foyer and cafeteria the air-handling system is equipped with adiabatic cooling (evaporative cooling) using collected rainwater for evaporation.
A special feature of the school building is the high pressure water mist extinguishing system. Due to the open atriums and the resulting intense fire precautions, such as 'G90' fire-protective glazing, fire dampers, etc., the use of a high pressure water mist extinguishing system was evaluated and as a result investment and operating costs could be economized.
We would like to take the opportunity to thank the design partners, experts and contractors for their cooperation. Special thanks to architects Ackermann and Raff from Stuttgart for their close coordination.

New constuction of secondary school in Frankfurt-Riedberg in passive house design
01.11.2009 - CSZ convinced the jury of the award procedure under professional services contract regulations (VOF) with an efficient energy and supply concept for the new construction of a secondary school and youth center with sports hall according to passive house standard at the Frankfurt Riedberg.
For the first new construction of a secondary school in the city of Frankfurt since 100 years, limited to a 56 million Euro budget, after the winning design by Stuttgart architects Ackermann and Raff, CSZ is awarded the planning of building services and automation.
Heart of the technology concept is a partially centralised air supply with highly effective heat recovery and intelligently controlled technical installations, customized to the users needs and high demands of the passive house design.
The power supply of over 9,000 m² effective area is basically realised from renewable energy sources. For cooling, the design team relies on passive approaches in combination with an adiabatic (evaporative-) cooling.
After long and varied experience in all disciplines of school construction, we are looking forward to our planning contribution to one of the largest passive house projects in Germany and a future-oriented, resource-conserving and sustainable school for 1300 young people.
Completion of the new school building of the ISF
28.10.2009 - The completion and final acceptance of the new classroom building of the International School Frankfurt (ISF) took place on 28.09.2009.
Considering the running school operation, the three storey building as prefabricated construction could be realised fully functional in only four months construction time (June to September), including all interior decorations.
Thus the campus of the ISF has been expanded by a school building, equipped with the latest information technology, with 5 group rooms at ground floor, 2 classrooms and offices on the 1st floor and an almost 200 m² examination and multi-purpose room on the 2nd floor.
Both with regard to the thermal frame and the innovative system technology having cost-saving maintenance, the building meets the high energetic demands of the new energy saving law 'Energieeinsparverordnung' (EnEV2009).
The heat supply operates with a high-quality air-water heat pump (no fossil burning is needed). An intelligent system control chills down effectively even under higher heating loads (e.g. computer operation or summer input), is cost saving and creates a comfortable indoor temperature.

CSZ is charged with the overall planning of an industrial plant
The company Karl Mayer (China) Ltd. is erecting a new production plant for textile machinery on an area of 175000 m² in the new developing area of the city of Changzhou, Wujin.
In addition to production halls and storehouses there will be buildings for administration, factory canteen as well as accommodation for foreign experts in an apartment hotel and in three guest houses.
Initially, our tasks as responsible for the overall planning were to specify the requirements of the owner and to convert them in a construction plan. The logistic processes for the optimisation of the production and the functional demands on lifting and transport devices in the halls took centre stage. It was essential to store machine tools vibration-free and to provide column-free surfaces for the transport of big knitters. Certain production areas are subject to special demands on temperature and humidity. Referring to the administration building, the factory canteen, the hotel and the guest houses there were high demands not only on functionality but as well on design which have to correspond to modern European standard. The design of the facade, the interior work as well as the range of colours were given in the draft and beside the functional tender completed by important details. The site development by means of roadways and media alignment and the connection to the available infrastructure were effected at the same time with the draft works for the buildings. The awarding of the contracts was made according to the FIDIC contract sample Plant and Design Built in January 2007. The examination of the implementation planning of the general contractor and the quality of execution of the construction work as well as the control of the time schedule and costs is realised by our local site supervision. The entry of the machine tools in the production halls is stipulated in the contract until January 2008, the completion of the total plant until April 2008.
